NEW YORK - Irish-bred underground darlings Voodoo Loons take their game up a few notches this Saturday as the first single off their forthcoming new album is launched not in a dank indie club… but in space. The band’s second LP, titled The Criminal Ear, is not expected until later this year, but satellite radio provider SiriusXM will be premiering the album’s first track Saturday morning on its Celtic Crush program.

The timing and venue of the launch makes sense on several levels as the song, called “The Winter Trail”, is a track where the band (along with frequent collaborator/mandolin virtuoso Mark Daly) leans more towards their Celtic side than their unique brand of punkish psychedelia. The song will also be available for download on iTunes.

Celtic Crush is a long-time staple of SiriusXM’s Spectrum channel, and is a grand tour of all things Celtic, from trad to Celtic rock, and everything that bridges the gap between the two. It’s hosted by Black 47 leader Larry Kirwan, and can be heard via satellite throughout North America online throughout the world.

JAN AKKERMAN BAND & ERIC BELL BAND TO HEADLINE RORY GALLAGHER FESTIVAL 2011

12,000 music fans are annually making the trip to the birthplace of Ireland’s Greatest Rock ‘Blues Legend, Rory Gallagher’s hometown Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal for one of the big events on the Irish Festival Calendar, the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival. The line-up for the 10th Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2011 has been announced with the 4-day festival taking place in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal between Thursday 2nd and Sunday 5th June 2011. The Festival will feature the legendary Jan Akkerman and his band, yes the Dutchman who was lead guitarist and frontman to the renowned “Focus”, while also among the headliners are former lead guitarist with “Thin Lizzy” Eric Bell and his band, while reflecting the Folk ‘n Blues genre will be Martin Carthy. The Festival that recently received the National Festival Award for ‘Best Medium Sized’ Festival will also see the renowned “Sinnerboy” tribute band from Manchester make their final appearance anywhere, at this years event. Some 20 International acts from Norway, Holland, Germany, USA, UK and from throughout Ireland will all perform in Ballyshannon, including a first time appearance for “Rock Hospital” from Norway, the return of “Shinkicker” led by Chris Stuckey and the “Tony Dowler Band”.

Festival Chairperson, Barry O’Neill said “we are delighted with the Programme that we have assembled. Eric Bell and his band previously played the Festival in 2007 and he was amazing, indeed his performance that night of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ has since had over 85,000 You Tube hits. Jan Akkerman is widely regarded as one of the leading Guitarists in the world, its fabulous that the man behind tune ‘Hocus Pocus’ is coming to play Ballyshannon. Rory Gallagher was a fan of Jan Akkerman and equally Jan was a fan of Rory. Folk Guitarist Martin Carthy will also perform at the headline Concert at the Rory Gallagher Theatre on Saturday 4th June 2011. Martin Carthy collaborated with Rory on the Album ‘Wheels within wheels’, its great that the 10th year of the Festival has these legends of music coming to pay tribute to Rory”.

On Feb 6th 2011 we lost one of Ireland’s rock heroes and one of the world’s top guitarists, Gary Moore. Autopsy reposts indicate that Gary died of natural causes - a heart attack while he was holidaying with his partner in Spain. He was only 58 years old.

Gary was an internationally highly regarded guitarist, featuring prominently in many world’s top guitarists lists. He played a diverse range of styles - psychedelic, jazz-rock, melodic hard rock, heavy metal and blues rock. He started his career at the young age of 16 when he moved from his home town of Belfast to Dublin and joined Skid Row. His playing at that stage was very mature and complex - you would never think it was coming from a teenager! In his Skid Row days he got noticed by another guitar legend, and one of his own guitar heroes, Peter Green. Skid Row had opened for Fleetwood Mac in Dublin and Peter was so impressed with what he heard that asked to meet Gary and invited him back to his hotel to jam with him. While in Skid Row Gary met Phil Lynott who also briefly was a member. Gary had a long association with Phil as a member of Thin Lizzy and contributing to each other’s solo projects. Gary did a brief stint with Thin Lizzy in the early seventies was a member of the jazz rock outfit Colosseum II in the mid-seventies and was back with Thin Lizzy in 1978. In the 80s Gary was a leading heavy metal guitar hero and released a string of blazing solo albums. He turned back to his blues roots in the 90s and successfully reinvented himself as a bluesman.

Folks, we’re sorry to let you know that there will be a delay in the release of the record. We collected the CDs from the manufacturer on Friday and the overall quality is just not up to scratch. When it comes down to it, artwork either matters or it doesn’t - we choose to believe that it does. We know some of you may already have a copy of the CD so if you hold onto them we’ll exchange it when we resolve the problem. In the meantime as a thank you for your patience, here’s track three from the record,
This Slaves Freedom Cries, PRAY IT LOUD. [click here to listen to track]
